5 Ones: What is it and how to use it in your coaching business
Growing your coaching business can feel like a board game. It requires an effective strategy to see success. The 5 ones is a simple and effective method of planning and growing your coaching business. This is a method hundreds of million dollar coaches attribute their business succcess to.
It’s perfect for beginners and experts because it simplifies everything. You don't need tens of strategies or tens ones, and it's completely free.
If you’re anything like me, you love simple, so this method is for you.
I find it extra effective because it ensures you stay focused and focus is the best way to see class A results.
You know what they say, “focus like a laser, not a flashlight”. One can cut through glass and the other can’t.
That’s what we want our business efforts and results to be like - minimal effort for the greatest results.
What are the 5 ones?
The 5 ones are - 1 target market, 1 problem solved (solution), 1 traffic source, 1 conversion method 1 year.
One target market
Focus on one target market (or take it one step further and focus on one niche). I talk about the difference between the tell here.
Your target market is the group of people you want to serve. For example, maybe you want to be a life coach to women in their 20s who want to get ahead in life.
Or, maybe you want to be a career coach to women who’ve had amazing careers and entered motherhood later in life. Whatever it is, define who you want to serve in your business. This steel is crucial because it will inform The next 4 ones. One problem solved (solution)
Your one problem solved, or solution, as I like to call it, is the way you’re going to help people. Your target market above have a problem and you can help them solve it. Using the examples above, group A may have seen the much older siblings struggle through their 20s and so they want to get ahead or maybe they’re over achievers, or maybe they saw that their parents couldn’t retire at 60 and they don’t want to be in the position so they’re taking steps now to avoid that. So, for this step, you’re going to define what problem you are solving and the actual solution.
The solution is where you come in.
Are you going to help them with a coaching program, a course or a workbook that helps them gain a transformation in their life? One traffic source
Your traffic is how you’re going to get visibility and brand awareness. How are people going to find out about you?
Will you start an Instagram page, or a blog (like me), or will you market yourself on Pinterest, or a podcast, or a YouTube channel, or TikTok?
There are so many options and I always recommend finding the option that works for you. Don’t start an Instagram if you hate Instagram. If you love writing, start a blog. If you love make videos, start a YouTube. If you love making quick film-on-the-go videos, start a TikTok or Instagram and make reels.
It doesn’t matter which you pick, you just have to make sure that your target market uses that platform and can find you on there. If your target market is Gen Z, then you wouldn’t use press features in print magazines as your traffic source, but if you were targeting an older demographic, maybe that would be perfect for you.
Choose a traffic sense that makes sense for both you and your audience. One conversion method
Your conversion method is how you’re going to make sales. If you’re solution is a 1:1 coaching program, then maybe you’re holding sales calls. If you don’t like sales calls, maybe you’re selling on Instagram stories
One year
One year is the length of time you’re going to focus on these 5 ones. Consistent, sustainable and focused progress will get you results faster than you realise.
Stay focused on achieving your goals. Stay focused on who you want to help and keep going. It’s definitely not always easy, but it’s possible. When you’re starting your business, you may find that you have to tweak things around as you learn more and improve over time, like moving from grade 1 to grade 2 in your business. But, eventually, you’ll find what works for you and you’ll be able to go full force in what you want to do.
When I started my health coaching business, my method of choice was ‘trial and error’ and it was not fun. It took me so much longer than it needed to to get my business set up, get my first paying client and actually call this ‘thing’ I was doing a business. If you want to avoid all the ‘trial and error’ and get support to launch and grow your coaching business, let chat.
